The El Yeso Ranch has been in existence since 1926 which was homesteaded by Elbert Overton. The original ranch ran 5000 head of sheep and 500 head of mother cows. The ranch is managed by Charlie Overton, grandson of Elbert, and his wife Beverly.
In 1974 Charlie & his wife, Beverly, started Chaparral Hunting to give hunters the experience of an old fashioned, working ranch & western atmosphere hunting experience, with the rancher as the guide. You will dine on the best home cooking, treated as one of the family and have a bunkhouse to lay your head down on at the end of a long eventful day. In the evening there will be stories, music and lots of laughter. You will be able to relax and enjoy the fresh country air, beautiful New Mexico night sky & down home hospitality.
The ranch consists of 90,000 hunting acres with various kinds of wildlife. Antelope, mule deer, coyotes, fox, mountain lions, eagles, hawks, various kinds of snakes, prairie dogs, badgers, porcupines, wild goats, dove, quail, & many other species of birds, jack rabbits, cotton tails & skunks, to name a few.
The El Yeso Ranch is located 4 miles West & then 10 miles South of Yeso, New Mexico. (Yeso is 21 miles West of Ft. Sumner, on highway 60). The ranch is approximately 550 miles from Dallas.
